“Odysseo,” a family-friendly theatrical experience featuring equestrian and acrobatic acts, gallops into Frisco this weekend. The $30,000,000 live extravaganza by the Montreal company Cavalia that has amazed critics and audiences alike across North America since its premiere in 2011, comes to Texas for its first time ever.
The production is an awe-inspiring ode to horse and human. “Odysseo” combines equestrian acts, aerial acrobatics, dancing, live music, high-tech special effects, and multimedia projections on massive screens.
The entire show is held under a gigantic, white custom-built circus tent, with its peak being 125 feet high. Over 60 horses and over 40 human performers take part in the production.
If “Odysseo” sounds like a four-legged version of Cirque du Soleil, there’s a good reason for that. Cavalia was founded by Normand Latourelle, one of the men behind of Cirque du Soleil during its years of rising to fame (1985-1990). It was Latourelle that imagined “Odysseo” and serves as its Artistic Director.
Frisco, TX will be the host home of “Odysseo” starting January 24th and running through February 8th. The 2.5 hour show (including a 30 minute intermission) will take place at Frisco’s Dr. Pepper Ballpark (7300 Roughriders Trail). Ticket prices run from $29.50 through $259.50 (for premium VIP packages), plus applicable taxes and fee.
After “Odysseo” exits Frisco, there are no other U.S. performances of the show scheduled for 2015.
Tickets and more information on “Odysseo” can be found on Cavalia’s website.
